Bump, set, spike, dig!

If you know these terms than you know it’s from volleyballBaltimore Beach Volleyball has an open beach volleyball pit right in the Inner Harbor. Typically on the weekends from 11 AM to 5 PM the Baltimore Beach Volleyball offers Drop-In play for $5 per person to play the whole day. (Check their main site here to see if they have changed the date or time of drop-in play. Sometimes they will close it due to inclement weather. Better to be safe then sorry.)

Located in the heart of the city the beach volleyball pit is located walking distance from all Baltimore hotels, attractions, and Baltimore universities. Whether you’ve played in men’s beach volleyball team in school or just a beginner you are more than welcome to come down to the sand and toss the ball around and meet new people. Also with the convenience of being in the Inner Harbor your never far from a distraction. Being a few blocks away from Federal Hill there are bars and restaurants to recharge your batteries.

If you’re looking for something a little more competitive than just a regular pick up game then consider joining the beach volleyball league. The fees to join are based on the team size but are around $60 per person and matches are scheduled every afternoon and night except for Saturdays. Click here for a run down of the leagues and format.

As with the regular limitations of being in the city parking is always an issue. But with the Baltimore Circulator you can take the bus to the volleyball pit for free from any of the major parts of the city. But if driving is your only option, the Lee St. Garage under the Harbor Court Tower offers a $6 flat rate with a purchase from the Light Street Pavilion.

Being outdoors pets, food, and beverages are more than welcome on the beach granted that you clean up after yourselves.

If you’re heading down there don’t forget to bring your camera. While you’ll want to take the great action shots of you and your friends having fun you’ll probably want to take a picture of the view itself. The backdrop of the beach volleyball pit shows the perfect skyline of Baltimore City.
